Blessed and Praised

“Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭31:28‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I know this is a day late but I just want to say “Happy Mother’s Day” to all the mothers out there. I hope y’all and enjoyed your special day!

This verse was mentioned in church last night and as I sat there , it dawned on me that I’m in the position to fulfill both parts of the verse! I’m blessed to be a child of an awesome mother and I can definitely praise my wife as she is a wonderful mother to our girls!

I am thankful for my mom. She did so much for myself and my brother and sister while we were growing up. Even though we are grown and out of the house, I know that she still wants the best for us and would do anything for us if she could. I’m blessed now because of everything my mother did for me when I was a child.

For my wife, I have nothing but praise for her. She is an amazing mother to our girls! She will put their needs and wants before her’s! My wife will sacrifice everything to make sure her family has enough. I can’t say enough to praise her, but I know I’m so thankful for her and everything she does for us!

To all the mothers out there, thank you for all that you do. You play a part in more than just your own children’s lives. There are mom’s out there who cared about me throughout certain times in my life and they played a huge part in where I am today and for that I’m thankful!

Happy Mother’s Day! (Even if it’s a day late)

Are You Frustrated?

Many Christians are spiritually frustrated because they have frustrated the Gospel of Christ.

One of the things I work on all the time is not getting frustrated in life. If something doesn’t go the way I want it to, I get frustrated. If something happens that I don’t like or agree with, I get frustrated.

The most common definition of definition of frustrate is to induce feelings of discouragement. Many people get discouraged when something in life doesn’t go their way. I get discouraged at times also! When I do get discouraged, I have to remind myself that my hope isn’t in man or in things but that my hope is in the Lord!

In the Christian life, I believe many people get ‘burnt out’ doing the Christian duties that we hear about so often. They may get tired of doing Christian duties, they may feel like they are never going to reach that standard of Christianity that has been set by someone in their life, whether it’s their parents, a church or someone they look up to. Many decide since they can achieve the spiritual level required of them, they just won’t try any more. This is just a sad fact in Christianity today.

The reason many people give up on Christianity is not because they aren’t saved but because they have ‘frustrated the grace of God.’

“I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭2:21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The word frustrate in this verse means to make ineffectual, to bring to nothing.

As a Christian, we have to realize that the grace of God is sufficient for us! We have to realize that there is absolutely nothing we can do for salvation. Salvation is through Christ and Christ alone. Probably my favorite thing about salvation is that since I have accepted Christ as my Saviour, I do not have to do anything to keep Christ as my Saviour. Once saved, always saved, no matter what!

What Paul is talking about here in Galatians is how they were confusing grace with the law and the law with grace. They are two different things but you have to have both to understand both! I wouldn’t know that I needed grace unless I knew that I didn’t measure up to the law.

What I do after salvation for Christ isn’t to keep my salvation but to show my love and gratitude towards Him and what He did for me.

If I think that my works after salvation do anything to keep me saved or make me any more righteous in His sight, than I have frustrated the grace of God and made it of none effect.

Christian, don’t get burnt out by getting frustrated at serving Christ! Change your mindset on why you serve Him! Don’t serve Him because YOU think you have to, to keep your righteousness. Serve HIM because you love Him and want to serve Him your gratitude for what HE has done for you.

If you are getting frustrated (discouraged) in your service to Christ, it may be that you are frustrating (making of none effect) the grace of Christ by trying to achieve righteousness through your own works.

Veterans Who Have Made A Difference In My Life

Today, on Veteran’s Day, I am thankful for all those who have served and are serving in our Armed Forces. I pray, I never take for granted the blessings and opportunities that I have by living in this great country of the United States of America.

As I think about the meaning of this day, I always think about veterans who have made a difference in my life. I grew up in Colorado Springs and the city was surrounded by five military bases. You couldn’t go anywhere without seeing someone in a military uniform. I am grateful that my parents taught me to treat the military with gratitude and respect. I had the opportunity to be on a bus route that went to one of the military bases, Fort Carson, and during this time, I was able to see how much of sacrifice military members made to serve our country.

This weekend, I have been reflecting on a few veterans who have made a difference in my life and have helped me throughout life in making decisions and pointing me in the right direction.

I would have to first thank my parents, Doug and Doris Hutton. My Dad served in the Air Force and my Mom served in the Army. It was through our church’s military ministry that they met, ended up getting married and then had me…biggest blessing of their life! They both instilled into me a work ethic, a schedule, how to have honour and respect. I know they raised me and my siblings in a Christian home but I know some of the military ways were instilled and grounded into us as we were growing up. There is so much that I can thank my parents for, but today I want to say thank you for your service.

Next person that played a huge part in my life is my first boss, Willie McCall. He served in the Army and he was a tank sergeant if I remember correctly. Mr. Willie wasn’t a church member where I went to church, but he probably did more to keep me in church than most people I went to church with. During this time, I had an attitude, I had a rebellious spirit, I was critical but Mr. Willie was always there to remind me that my life was far better than his or all my co-workers at the time. I wasn’t in trouble with the law, I didn’t have messed up relationships, he would always point me back to church telling me not to quit and if I did, I would end up like them. Mr. Willie was my second father it seemed during this time, always reprimanding me when I needed it and encouraging me when I felt like giving up! Thank you Mr. Willie for the impact you had on my life.

The last person who played a huge part in my life was Mike Chantigian. He served in both the Marines and the Army. Bro. Chantigian was my bus captain most of my high school life. We were Bus 15 and we went to Fort Carson every week to reach those military families. He showed me that it was alright to never take no for an answer when out visiting for church. He made serving God fun, he made spending all day on the bus route worth it. During my teen years when I was most impressionable, he made a huge impression on my life by showing me it was best to serve God no matter what!

To these and all who have and are serving, I say thank you.
