A Prayer Life

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:6

“Pray without ceasing.” I Thessalonians 5:17

“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;” Ephesians 6:18

“And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;” Luke 18:1

“And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.” Matthew 21:22

“Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;” Romans 12:12

I saw this quote this morning and it stuck in my mind. I am one of the many who have a prayer time. I know I don’t pray like I should. If each person is honest, many would agree that they too just have a prayer time.

Can you imagine all the answers to prayer if we lived a life of prayer and not just pray 5 minutes a day? God wants to answer your prayers, are you even praying?

Work on not only having a prayer time but a life of prayer!

Ask With….

“But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” James 1:6-8

Last week, I posted about just asking for wisdom. God is willing to give wisdom and more to us, if we just ask.

I want to look at the next few verses from James 1 and see how we are supposed to ask. I think that we can take these things and not only apply them when asking for wisdom, but also when we ask for other things.

  1. Ask With Confidence – The first thing I notice in these verses is, “ask in faith, nothing wavering.” We should have a respect and fear for God, but we shouldn’t be afraid to ask Him for things. God doesn’t want us to waver in our asking. He wants us to be confident, to be sure in our prayers to Him.
  2. Ask With Consistency – When we pray, we need to be consistent in talking to God. We need to talk to Him everyday! If we pray today and then we don’t talk to God for another 3 weeks, I don’t think God will bless that. But if we have a constant and consistent relationship with God, He will bless that through answering our prayers.
  3. Ask With Calmness – God likens wavering to that of a wave that is tossed about with the wind. He doesn’t want His children to be like that, He wants a calmness, a peace in our life. When we pray, pray with calmness. He is the peace that we need in our lives. Yes, he hears us in the loud and bustling areas, but He enjoys that sweet fellowship in the quiet place.

Whatever you need, pray. Whenever you pray, be confident, be consistent, be calm!
