Where Are All the Workers?

So this past weekend, my wife and I went out to celebrate our birthdays. It is definitely easy to remember my wife’s birthday since it is the day right before mine! We always sign up for clubs at restaurants just to see what coupons they send for your birthday. Since we have our birthdays on consecutive days, we always get two coupons for everything.

One of the restaurants that we get a coupon too is Golden Corral. They just opened one up here where we live not too long ago and we have been waiting until our birthday to go. Every time we have driven past, whether it was lunch or dinner, the line has been out the door. We got our coupons for a buy one get one free buffet which is a really good deal. We decided that we were going to go around 4pm to eat and then we were going to an arcade and play some games afterward.

We got to Golden Corral about 3:30 or so, expecting a line but we got in pretty quick. The best part about it is that we get the lunch prices and the dinner food. We ended up only paying $15 for the two of us to eat and for our sodas. That’s a pretty good deal in my opinion!!

You’re probably reading this and wondering where I am going with all this…

Well we get in and get seated fairly quick. While we were eating and enjoying the food and our time together we started to notice a couple things. First, there were always groups of employees walking around and talking, and only one of them would be actually working. Secondly, the customers at the table next to us left about five minutes after we got seated and the table stayed dirty until about five minutes before we left and we were there for about an hour. A six seat table didn’t get cleaned off for fifty minutes. Not because there weren’t enough employees, there just wasn’t enough labourers.

“Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.” Matthew 9:37-38

One of the biggest issues in churches today is that there are plenty of Christians but not enough labourers. Yes, I’m talking to myself as I write this. Too many Christians go to church to check the box of church attendance but they don’t labour for Christ in their daily life. Christians will fill up the church but they wont do any work in the church.

The Lord tells us that the harvest is ready, He tell us that if we go we will reap. I know that these verses are talking about soul winning and witnessing and we should go and witness, we should be faithful in telling people about Christ. Soulwinning is the main job of the Christian. We are to be witnesses wherever we go. We should leave gospel tracts wherever we go.

Don’t be like one of those employees at Golden Corral who just walked around and didn’t do a whole lot, don’t be that kind of Christian. Be one who works, who labourers for Christ. In the end, you will be blessed. You will be rewarded for your labour.

P.S. Overall our experience at Golden Corral was great and the food was very good!

Connectivity is Key

Negativity will interfere with your spiritual connectivity.

I work part-time driving for Lyft and Uber. It is a simple job of driving around town and basically being a friendly taxi driver. I was a little skeptical of it at first, but I enjoy meeting new people and hearing some interesting things. The job is simple in that you get a request to pick someone up, you drive to their location, pick them up and drop them off wherever they need to go.

I use Google Maps as my navigation system and it works great, most of time. I got a request a few weeks ago, I accepted the request and Google Maps opened up and it said I was about two minutes away from my destination. Now I was in downtown on Saturday night so the two minutes took about five minutes. I arrive at my destination and nobody was on the street. It was a little side street and there was a little coffee shop but it was closed. I was confused and to be honest a little nervous since even the street was dark. I drove down to the end of the street underneath a streetlight and called the customer. The customer was in a totally different spot of downtown. I put in the address and it said I was five minutes away from the location, which took about twenty minutes with all the traffic. I eventually got to the customer and they were nice about the whole situation. I even got a nice tip from them.

I was thinking about what went wrong with Google Maps. What I figure is that the connection was messed up due to the tall buildings of downtown and the large increase of cell activity at that time downtown.  I had gotten mixed signals. I had trusted in a GPS to lead me the right direction and it failed.

You’re probably wondering why I told this story. I got to thinking about the Christian life and how as a Christian we should always want to be in the center of God’s will. The problem is a lot of Christians know where they should be but they aren’t there, they are in the wrong location. You may go to church and look good on the outside but it is what is on the inside that counts. If we aren’t reading our Bible, praying, being a soul winner, and doing the things that we know we should do, then we will never be in the center of God’s will. These are things that strengthen our connectivity to God. If we fail in one of these areas, then are signal with God isn’t as string as it should be.

Many Christians have good intentions of having a good connectivity with God, but sometimes they get their signals mixed up and lose the connectivity with God that they should have. Here are the two things I believe that will help us have a good connectivity with God.

  • Reading your Bible“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” Joshua 1:8  When we read and meditate on the Word of God, God says that our way will be prosperous and successful. When we neglect His Word, we will lose that connectivity and get out of His way for us and struggle in our life.
  • Praying “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:6 This is one of my favorite verse on prayer. It tells us to pray about everything and ask God to help us. When we are constantly talking to God, we will have a strong connectivity on our way in the Christian life. Without prayer, we will end up getting lost in this world because we stopped communicating with the one Who can guide us.

Google Maps needs a strong signal and good connection for it to be functioning at its best. A Christian needs the Word of God and prayer so that they are functioning at their best in the Christian life.

We know that tall buildings and increased cell activity in a condensed are will weaken a cell signal. Here are a couple things that will weaken a Christian’s connectivity with God, besides a lack of Bible reading and prayer.

  1. Negativity will interfere with your spiritual connectivity. In my opinion there are two types of negativity: first the negativity where you are always down and have nothing to be happy about and secondly the kind where you talk bad and try to bring others down around you. I know that we all go thorough times of sorrow and sadness, we all have bad times and rough times; but God still wants us to be joyful, to be positive. Don’t surround yourselves with people who are negative all the time and don’t be one who is negative.
  2. Inactivity will interfere with your spiritual connectivity. As a Christian we should be active doing the things and work of God. If we are inactive, we definitely do not have a good connectivity with God. We see through out the book of Proverbs of how the lazy and slothful man is destroyed and set to the side. This happened because he wasn’t doing anything for anyone. God needs and wants His children to be active serving and worshipping Him. Inactive Christians will get put to the side so that someone can be used that wants to be active in His service.

A Christian can be set to the side if we lose our connectivity with God. Make sure to stay in His Word and in constant communication (prayer) with Him daily. Strive to have a strong signal with God and make sure you do your part not to lose connection with God.

Working or Talking, What Are You Doing?

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. Thomas A. Edison

In today’s generation this is a word that hardly anyone puts to practice.

To some it is a dirty word, they don’t want to say work, think about work or even attempt to work.

Work. If there is one thing my parents taught me, it was how to work. I remember as a kid having to do chores. I learned how to vacuum, do the dishes, clean the bathrooms and so much more. I learned at a young age to work hard and I’m so thankful that my parents taught me to work!

“For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool’s voice is known by multitude of words.” ‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭5:3‬ ‭KJV

This verse is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. Simply it states that if you ever want to accomplish anything you have to work hard.

If you have a dream, a goal, a desire…you will have to work hard to see it come to pass. The greatest athletes didn’t become great just by sitting on the couch, they became great by spending hours and hours practicing and working on their game to become better. Whatever you want to do in life, you have to work hard.

I’ve seen people who talk more than they work and they wonder why they never accomplish anything. God’s Word tells us that a fool’s voice is known by the multitude of words. Foolish people are the ones who sit around and complain about how things are going. They are the ones who always have something to say about whatever is going on. The people that talk a lot are the ones who never get anything done.

Whatever your dream is? Whatever your goal is? Stop sitting around talking about it. Get up and start doing something to accomplish it!

Stop talking about what you are going to do for Christ! Stop talking about serving Him! Just start doing what you know to do as a Christian. If you start working for the Lord, He will bless you more then you will ever dream of!

You have to choose a side.

Be a worker or be a talker.

A worker accomplishes dreams and goals.

A talker talks about the one who is working, yet wants the success of the one who works!
