Lord, Help Me to Have A Good Attitude

“Lord, help me to have a good attitude” should be a daily prayer by every Christian. Let the world see the joy in Christian living through you.

So as y’all know, my baby was born the other week and thanks to her, I was able to take a week and a half off from work.

A week and a half off of work felt like eternity, but it felt good. I never knew that chasing a two year old around all day was relaxing. I felt refreshed after being off that long but I definitely wasn’t ready to go back to work.

I swung by my job late Saturday night, just to see what I would be walking into on Monday morning. That was not a good decision! We are smack dab in the middle of busy season and you can tell by how full our warehouse is right now. I drove away from the warehouse on Saturday night and I had already started praying, “Lord, help me to have a good attitude on Monday.”

“Lord, help me have a good attitude!”

Attitudedetermines your outlook!

I prayed this little prayer over and over. If there is one thing I work hard on in my life is my attitude, I work at trying to keep my attitude positive and happy on a daily basis and honestly some days I just give up and get irritated and frustrated at the littlest things.

I got to thinking about Philippians 4:4, “Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.” I got to thinking about that word alway. This word means at all times, on all occasions. The Lord is telling us to rejoice all the time, and not to just rejoice, but to rejoice in Him.

I had two choices walking into work on Monday morning, I could be happy or I could be irritated. I could find joy in my situation or I could find something to complain about.

I honestly tried to find joy throughout the day, I did slip up and get frustrated at one point and than I remembered my prayer!

I rejoiced in the Lord, that I had a job I could go to.

I rejoiced in the Lord that I have the health to be able to work a full-time job.

I rejoiced in the Lord that my job allowed me to take a week and a half off to be home with my newborn baby and my family.

I rejoiced in the Lord that my job has pretty decent benefits.

I rejoiced in the Lord that we are so busy with work that my job isn’t going out of business any time soon.

Yes it was Monday after being off eleven straight days, no I didn’t want to go to work. I could have groaned and complained all day but I tried to keep a good attitude. I found reasons to rejoice in the Lord.

I could go on and on about all the blessings the Lord has given to me that I could rejoice in, because that’s the easy thing to do. Your attitude isn’t determine by how well everything is going for you, it is determined by how much joy you can find in the hard times. The verse says “Rejoice in the Lord.” If we always find joy in the Lord, we will always be able to rejoice, even in the hard times where there really is no joy.

Hey, Christian?!

Where is your joy? Is it in the Lord? Or do you have no joy because you are focused on the hard time you are in.

“Lord, help me to have a good attitude. Help me to find joy in the hard times. Help me to ALWAYS rejoice in You.”

Hope Thou In God

When life gets rough, hope in God.

I have my Bible app on my phone set up to notify me the verse of the day everyday. Usually I skim through the verse but this morning it hit home.

“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.” Psalms 42:11

This verse along with the message I heard at church last night about having peace in the midst of the storm have encouraged and lifted me up. God knew what I needed and when I needed it.

The phrase from this verse “hope thou in God” stuck out like a lit up sign with flashing arrows pointing to it. It was like it was speaking to me, ‘Hey Caleb! Where is your hope at? Is it in yourself or the things that you can do or is it in God?’ Man, that struck home with me. To many times I hope in my own strength and power that I can do things and that I can fix things, but my hope should be in God.

If your soul is cast down, if it is disquieted (worried or anxious), look inside yourself to see where your hope is. Look inside yourself to see if you are trying to do everything on your own. Life by yourself is hard!!

Put your hope in God! Let your trust be in God!

When you get down and out and feel sorry for yourself, you also loose your praise. Find something that you can praise God about…your salvation, the blessings He gives you everyday! If we stop and think, we can sit here and praise God all day for His goodness to us!

The health of your countenance is determined by the relationship you have with God! I told one of my friends the other week that his countenance was joyful and refreshed, something I hadn’t seen on him in a long time. Come to find out, he told me that he has been spending time walking with God and getting back to his devotions. You could tell by his countenance that he was hoping in God and praising Him and having a good relationship with God.

My goal this week is to not let the cares and problems of this world drag me down! my goal this week is to hope in the Lord! To praise the Lord for everything He has done for me! My goal this week is get a healthy countenance from a good relationship with God!

Let’s all strive to be better this week as we put our hope in God!

The Secret to a Stress-Free Life

Everybody is going to stress out about something at some point or another. It is what you do with that stress that will either make you or break you.

I believe that God doesn’t want us as Christians to stress. He wants us to enjoy life and be happy in our service to Him.

What is Stress? Stress is a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances.

Stress is a mental issue that starts to affect your physical health and your outlook on life if not taken care of.

Stress is an individual emotion that you end up taking out on those around you. You cannot let other people and circumstances affect you in such a way that you become stressed out.

God has given us some simple steps on how to live a stress free life. Notice I said stress-free life, not problem-free life. We will always have problems in life, but if we learn to “let go and let God” we will not be stressed out over those problems.

Let’s look at three things to having a stress-free life.

1. Be Positive

“Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.” Philippians 4:4

The first step to having no stress is be positive. God tells us to rejoice and than He says after you rejoice, rejoice again. I have never seen a negative person full of joy and I have never seen a stressed out person full of joy. Stop for a moment and look at your life and see everything you are blessed with. Whenever I think I have it rough, I remind myself that someone, somewhere is worse off than I am. If God has blessed you with salvation, you have no reason to stress yet every reason to rejoice. I could go on and on with reasons to rejoice but it all comes down to what you are looking at and what you are letting affect you in your life. If you want to focus on the things that cause you stress than go ahead, but I’m telling you that when you turn your eyes on God and look on all His blessings you will forget why you are stressed because you will be rejoicing in the goodness of God.
Be Positive!!!

2. Be Prayerful

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:6

The second thing we need to do is pray. Pray and ask God for help through the stressful times. God wants to help you, He is waiting for you to ask! Too many times, the Christian tries to shoulder the heavy load in this world when the Lord said to cast your cares upon Him. Praying and asking the Lord for help is probably the best stress reliever there is.

3. Have a Proper mindset

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8

When I read this verse, I think of the Word of God, I think of the Bible. It is a true Book, a honest Book, a just Book, a pure Book, a lovely Book, it is a Book of good report, it is full of virtue and praise. If you fill your mind with the Word of God, stress will have no room. The proper mindset, thinking on the things of God, is an absolute must to rid yourself of stress. When you think more on your problems and issues that you are going through than on the Word of God, you will end up being stressed.

Do you want a stress-free life?

Be Positive!
Be Prayerful!
Have the Proper mindset!

“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7
