What I Learned From my Mother

I hope that all the mothers out there had a good Mother’s Day. I hope that each one of you felt loved and appreciated.

I love my mom! She has done so much for me throughout my life that I know I could never repay her! If their is one thing I strive to do with my life, it is too make my mother proud of her son. I never want to bring heartache and disappointment to my mom, although I have and I know she has forgiven me time and time again. I just want my mom to know that I love her!

This past week I have spent much time pondering what I have learned from my mother and I came up three things that covers everything!

The first lesson I learned from my mother is hard work. She taught me that if you work hard you will have what you need, maybe not everything you want but definitely what you need. My mom worked from dawn to dusk everyday. She was a mother at home taking care of her husband and three children. She was a teacher at school, instructing young children in the basics of knowledge. She was an accomplished seamstress who worked part-time sewing and making puppets. She is a lady of many talents who is always where she is supposed to be, doing the job she is supposed to do. Hard work never scared my mom and she made sure that her kids weren’t scared of it either. I know that I have made it this far in life because of hard work and I learned it from my mother.

The next lesson I learned from my mother is how to be humble. I’ve seen many times where my mom probably should have been recognized for something she did but she wasn’t; that never stopped my mom though, she just kept on going. She didn’t need the praise and attention of man to keep her doing her job, she just did it because she loves what she does. My mom never forced herself into the spotlight, she never tried to draw attention to herself. My mom has a humble spirit, she just wants to serve and be a blessing to others whether she is recognized or praised or not. I want to be like my mom and just be a humble person, I don’t have to be recognized to do something great. I don’t have to be praised to keep on going. I do what I do because I love what I do.

The last major lesson I learned from my mom is how to live holy. She practiced what she taught and she taught what she practiced. My mother didn’t live on both sides of the fence! She lives a holy life pleasing unto the Lord. I’m sure she would be the first to tell you that she isn’t perfect. As a child, I saw a mother who put God and the things of God first. I saw my mom reading her Bible many times, I saw her pray, I saw her serve God on a daily basis. I never had to worry about hearing a cuss word come from my mom’s mouth. I never had to worry about alcohol and cigarettes being in our home. I never had to worry about the filth of the world being in our home. My mother tried to make our home a holy house that was pleasing to God.

I learned many things from my mom and I’m thankful that I was able to learn from her throughout my life. I believe the best gift a child can give back to their mother is that of making them proud. I want my mom to be proud of me, I want to bring honour to my mother. I hope that as I live my life and take care of my family and serve God that people can look at me and say that I must have had a good mother!
And the best thing my mother taught is how to find a wife with these same qualities! My wife is a great mother to my baby girl! I love my wife as she is the glue that holds our family to together!

I love you Mom!!

“Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.” Proverbs 31:28

Two Ears, One Mouth

“Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.”

Proverbs 17:28KJV

This verse popped up as the verse of the day on my Bible app. Whenever I see this verse, it reminds me of a little saying that goes something like this “God created you with two ears and one mouth, so He wants you to listen more than you talk.”

The tongue is what gets most people in trouble most of the time. James says that no man can tame the tongue. If we always said what we felt like saying we would have no friends, no job, nothing…all because no one would want to be around us with an unbridled tongue! The only way we can tame our tongue is let God take control, let God take the reins of our tongue. If God controls our tongue and we only say what He would have us to say, I guarantee you will cut down on the problems you have in life. You will have better relationships with your family, at the church house, even on the job site if you only say what God wants you to say.

Have you ever wondered why you can’t hear God talk to you? Do you feel like God is never there when you need Him? Maybe it’s because you have too much talking going on in your life. Maybe you’re never quiet long enough to hear God speak. Maybe it’s the noise of the world that you are involved in drowning out the voice of God. It is good to stop everyday and be quiet, turn everything off and allow God to speak to you through His Word and the Holy Spirit.

Two ears, one mouth….always remember it’s better to listen twice before you talk once.

The Secret to a Stress-Free Life

Everybody is going to stress out about something at some point or another. It is what you do with that stress that will either make you or break you.

I believe that God doesn’t want us as Christians to stress. He wants us to enjoy life and be happy in our service to Him.

What is Stress? Stress is a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances.

Stress is a mental issue that starts to affect your physical health and your outlook on life if not taken care of.

Stress is an individual emotion that you end up taking out on those around you. You cannot let other people and circumstances affect you in such a way that you become stressed out.

God has given us some simple steps on how to live a stress free life. Notice I said stress-free life, not problem-free life. We will always have problems in life, but if we learn to “let go and let God” we will not be stressed out over those problems.

Let’s look at three things to having a stress-free life.

1. Be Positive

“Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.” Philippians 4:4

The first step to having no stress is be positive. God tells us to rejoice and than He says after you rejoice, rejoice again. I have never seen a negative person full of joy and I have never seen a stressed out person full of joy. Stop for a moment and look at your life and see everything you are blessed with. Whenever I think I have it rough, I remind myself that someone, somewhere is worse off than I am. If God has blessed you with salvation, you have no reason to stress yet every reason to rejoice. I could go on and on with reasons to rejoice but it all comes down to what you are looking at and what you are letting affect you in your life. If you want to focus on the things that cause you stress than go ahead, but I’m telling you that when you turn your eyes on God and look on all His blessings you will forget why you are stressed because you will be rejoicing in the goodness of God.
Be Positive!!!

2. Be Prayerful

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:6

The second thing we need to do is pray. Pray and ask God for help through the stressful times. God wants to help you, He is waiting for you to ask! Too many times, the Christian tries to shoulder the heavy load in this world when the Lord said to cast your cares upon Him. Praying and asking the Lord for help is probably the best stress reliever there is.

3. Have a Proper mindset

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8

When I read this verse, I think of the Word of God, I think of the Bible. It is a true Book, a honest Book, a just Book, a pure Book, a lovely Book, it is a Book of good report, it is full of virtue and praise. If you fill your mind with the Word of God, stress will have no room. The proper mindset, thinking on the things of God, is an absolute must to rid yourself of stress. When you think more on your problems and issues that you are going through than on the Word of God, you will end up being stressed.

Do you want a stress-free life?

Be Positive!
Be Prayerful!

“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7
